As your first day, take it slow and rest well at the Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary. Begin your wellness sojourn at the Sanctuary by first meeting with a traditional doctor and get a complete program to achieve a healthy balance between body, mind and spirit. You can enjoy any massage of your choice from their professional spa therapist followed by a visit to the steam and sauna rooms and a dip in their indoor pool. With their own vegetable and herb gardens, the 4-course lunch and 6-course dinner of the Sanctuary are every guests favorite part of the day.

Rest well for your much anticipated hike to the Tiger’s Nest.

  • Day Two – Cultural Experience

Start your day with a well-being activity and enjoy a hearty breakfast for your hike to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery locally known as Taktsang Goemba. The hike to and excursion of the Tiger’s Nest Monastery is a full day activity normally taking about 3-4 hours uphill with the option of riding a pony till midway.

Located on a steep cliff high above the Paro valley at an altitude of 3,120 meters above the sea level, the Tiger’s Nest is an architectural and engineering feat baffling visitors with its spiritual ambience and extraordinary history.

You can enjoy your BBQ lunch at the base of the Monastery.

After a tiring hike, the Sanctuary is the place to be to relax and be pampered with all their unlimited well-being services and facilities.

  • Day Three – Sanctuary Experience

Today is a full day of exploring the valley and soaking in the various experiences that Paro has to offer from the history of the majestic Rinpung Dzong and the Museum overlooking the valley, to the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang / temple and a beautiful car ride or bicycle ride to the Drugyal Dzong (Fortress of Victory) located north of the valley. The 1 ½ hour Zuri Dzong Hike is a leisurely leg stretching exercise with spectacular bird’s eye view of the Valley.

Evenings are perfect for a walk, hike or cycle through the sleepy rural village till you reach the main Paro town. The small town is lined with cafes, eateries and handicraft shops that provides a perfect glimpse into the unique culture and traditions of Bhutan. You might even want to hangout at a pub and enjoy some local brew.

However, you also have the option to spend the full day at the Sanctuary and engage in hands-on activities like pottery, cooking, traditional Bhutanese sports like archery and darts or just relax at the pool and open terrace overlooking the magnificent valley.

Attractions of Paro...

By Sonam Dendup 30 May, 2020
The mysterious and remote Dragay Phangtsho Lake at 4,300 masl rests at the lap of towering cliffs and a spectacular view of the never-ending undulating valleys below. Located north of Paro valley it is a two-hour drive on dirt road and from the Drana Samten Choling Goemba (Temple) a strenuous 7 hours hike to reach the Lake and back to the road-point. Despite being one of the toughest short hikes in Bhutan with the mountains literally glaring at your forehead, the hike is absolutely beautiful with sightings of various birds and animals and the mountains covered with colorful highland flowers. Lakes in Bhutan are considered sacred and holy and abode of the Dharma protecting deities; and pilgrimages to such lakes prepare the pilgrims for the after-death to overcome obstacles created by the Water Force (Chu Gi Jigpa) when one is lost in the Bardho, a state after death and before next life. Dragay Phangtsho or the Lake at the Lap of the Cliffs is one of the most sacred lakes and a must visit in one’s lifetime. One story relates that Yongdra Gyatsho, the fifth Dharma Master went into the Lake with a lit butter lamp, remained inside the lake for seven days and miraculously returned with various treasures, with the lamp still burning and his clothes as dry as the day he went in. Many religious stories abound the Lake and hence, is considered one of the holiest lakes in Bhutan. There are also few smaller lakes in and around the main lake and one can also see in the far off distance the Jele Dzong, Dongkola, Chidu Goemba and Mendrup Goemba (temple).
Waterfall at Chumpu Ney
By Sonam Dendup 29 May, 2020
The Chumphu Nye is a beautiful day hike of about 7 hours along well trodden trails and though long hours however it is not strenuous. The gentle trail is mostly along the gushing river and you will come across waterfalls, holy water and sacred caves all along till the temple. A deep sense of spirituality and faith is evoked as one hikes through the peaceful forests and especially as different shapes and sizes of rocks spread all the way up to the monastery bearing deep meaning and reflecting the spiritual history of the place. At the foothill atop which bears the monastery is a dramatic waterfall, numerous caves where Guru Padmasambhava and his consorts, dakinis and legendary scholars were believed to have meditated. Also, among many spiritual invoking sites is the holy water that seeps out of a huge solid dry rock believed to heal various diseases and give long life. The most sacred object of the area is the floating statue of Dorji Phagmo (Vajravarahi) defying gravity. History has it that the statue was discovered from the lake above the Monastery, originally smaller in size but miraculously grown to the present size naturally. The caretaker of the monastery will prove to each and every visitor that the statue is indeed floating by moving a scarf back and forth under the statue. Dorje Phagmo, or the "Diamond Sow," is an incarnation of Dolma (Tara), the divine consort of Chenrezig (Buddha of Compassion). This day long hike is a good reprieve amid cool breeze, green forests and the sound of gushing rivers calms one’s mind and soul.

This two storied Druk Choeding lhakhang/temple is located in the heart of Paro town and a quick visit is recommended. The main relic of the temple is a statue of a Jowo Jampa (future Buddha) and also houses ancient war artifacts. Just like all the temples the Druk Choeding Lhakhang is also frequented by young and old devotees circumambulating the temple especially during morning and evening. Many small festivals, ceremonies and rituals take place in the temple all year round and this will make for an interesting visit with the monks chanting from the scriptures and playing the ceremonial musical instruments.

FAQS

Here are answers to some common questions.
  • How long is the Visa process and can I apply directly with the Bhutan Government for my tourist Visa?

Visa formalities is smooth and hassle free for tourists as only registered tour companies/operators can apply for tourist Visas with the Tourism Council of Bhutan. As your chosen tour company, once we confirm your travel dates, flights and logistics we will apply for your Bhutan Visa. All tourist Visa approval is 100% guaranteed and Visa approval only depends on your imminent travel dates. Visa usually gets approved 1 month prior to your arrival date to Bhutan.

  • Can we buy our flight tickets or do we have to buy from you?

You can either purchase your flight tickets online https://www.drukair.com.bt or we can do on your behalf. It will be more convenient for you and for us if we purchase your flight tickets, as there is no difference in the price whether you or we purchase. However, as a Registered Ticketing Agent of both the Airlines in Bhutan, we will be the first ones to know if there are any changes in the flight timing or schedule, and we can immediately liaise with the airlines for the next best options and reschedule accordingly the hotels and itinerary.

The second advantage is if there are any promotional rates we can avail the offer and pass it on to you which is not possible if you buy online.

  • Can we have a yoga class or a session while in Bhutan?

Yoga is gaining popularity in Bhutan and there are few yoga centers offering scheduled sessions by professional yoga teachers at no cost or a minimum fee. Also luxury premium hotels like Uma by Como, Six Senses and Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary offers free yoga classes for their in house guests as per their schedule. For walk in guests the additional cost for a 1 hour yoga session with their in-house teacher at Uma by Como in Paro is USD 120.00 for 1 person.

However, if you do not need a teacher, then we can provide yoga mats which will be kept in your car all times and whenever you want you can ask your guide to take you to a good spot to do your yoga. There are many scenic spots and plenty of opportunity for outdoor yoga session by yourself or with your traveling group.

We also arrange special wellness and Yoga retreat trips on request.

  • Do I have to travel with a tour guide?

Tourism in Bhutan is managed by the Tourism Council of Bhutan and as per the Tourism Policy any tourists wishing to visit Bhutan must tie up with a local tour operator for Visa and all logistics. The policy also mandates that each tour group irrespective of the number of people in a group, must have a tour guide and a driver. While all this sounds restrictive, suffocating and almost like traveling to North Korea where they also have the guided tour policy, however please be assured the similarity ends at these words. Bhutan is a liberal country and one of the safest places to visit and live in. Tour itineraries are customized as per the interests of the guests and the guests has the liberty to choose their duration of travel and places to visit. Guests have the liberty to start their day at any time they choose, spend extra time at a site or skip any sight if not interested.

The tour guide and driver are more like local companions showing you the places and providing local insight into the culture of Bhutan, while also taking care of all logistics and ensuring you have a hassle free comfortable holiday in Bhutan.
