Rajung Monastery - The Seat of Garab Rimpochey
Located about twenty minutes drive from the main Trashigang town, the beautiful Rangjung Woesel Choling Monastery is located on top of a small hill overlooking the small town of Rangjung. The Monastery is a complex of small temples, retreat centers and serves as an Institute for Buddhist studies particularly the Nyingma tradition, the oldest practice of Buddhism. Surrounded by paddy fields, traditional houses, far flung villages and towering mountains, the Monastery is a spiritual hub for Rangjung village and nearby communities with many ceremonies and rituals being conducted very often.
This stunning monastery and its architectural design is one of a kind and resembles the architectural design of the ancient monasteries in Tibet. Currently the Rangjung Monastery has 300 monks pursing Buddhist education and is frequented by old parents giving a perfect opportunity for tourists to exchange a few words with them.
