The Palace is a 23 Km drive from the Trongsa town passing through beautiful waterfalls, roadside villages with terraced paddy fields and different beautiful colorful crops. Initially the Palace was the winter residence of the Second King Jigme Wangchuck, now it is used as an Institute for monks pursing Buddhist Education. Like any other Palace in Bhutan, this Palace is also built in a traditional architectural design with stone walls surrounding the structure. An excursion of the Palace will give a deep insight into the life of the early days of the Second King and the view of the valley from the Palace is spectacular with the gorge of the Mangde River down the valley.
Travelers can grab the opportunity to interact with the monks and have photographs with them and learn about monastic life. If you are lucky then during your visit you can watch a live game of archery at the archery range below the Palace which was previously used by the Second King. You can also interact with the villagers nearby, though occupied in their daily work yet the locals will be eager and happy to exchange a few words with the tourists.
