Tashi Yangtse at an elevation of 1,800 meters above sea level is about 3 hours drive from Trashigang town and is the farthest district in Eastern Bhutan. It shares international border with Tibet in the north and Arunachal Pradesh in India in the North East. The Bomdelling Wildlife Sanctuary which falls within this district has some of the largest protected areas, virtually untouched Eastern Himalayan ecosystem ranging from warm broadleaved forest to Alpine meadows. The Sanctuary is home to around more than 100 species of flora and fauna, including globally endangered species such as snow leopard, Royal Bengal tiger and red panda. Every year, about 200 black necked cranes flies from Tibetan plateaus in Bumdeling from mid-November to early March. It is also a paradise for butterflies with 130 species in record so far including the Bhutan Swallowtail Butterfly / Ludlow's Bhutan Glory (Bhutanitis ludlowi), the national butterfly and the only butterfly found in Bhutan.

The people of this region are known as Yangtseps and they are very skilled at wood working and paper making. The traditional wooden bowls that they produce are prized throughout the country. People here also grow varieties of cereals, vegetables and fruits and some rear cattle. One of the visible sights upon arrival in Tashi Yangtse is Chorten Kora and the architecture of this Chorten was borrowed from the Boudanath stupa in Nepal. It is also believed that a princess from Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, India was enshrined on her own will in the Chorten to appease a troublesome demon and showering harmony aftermath. There is also a School of Traditional Arts where students are taught painting, pottery, wood sculpture, wood-turning, lacquer-work and embroidery and keeping the aged old skills alive. Besides natural beauty and diversity, Tashi Yangtse is also blessed with some of the most sacred temples and monasteries, including Gomphu Kora, Rigsum Gompa, and Dechenphodrang Lhakhang.
