Tang is a remote village located about an hour’s drive from the main Bumthang town and an excursion of the valley is an interesting off the beaten path experience. Located on a ridge overlooking the serene Tang valley, the Ogyen Choling Palace turned Museum is a beautiful complex including a 3 star Heritage House offering food and lodge within the premises.
Belonging to a local royalty the palace has remained in the same family for generations and this palace turned museum provides a rare glimpse into the life styles and conditions of landed gentry/royalty before the abolition of serfdom through social reforms in the 1950’s. At the Museum, one can also take a guided tour of the Palace to get a feel of what life was like in rural Bhutan over the past 200 years with well-preserved ancient artifacts and artworks on display.
The rooms are cozy and well furnished with basic amenities and there is plenty of outdoors space to soak in the spiritual ambience, peace and tranquility of the natural surroundings. Their restaurant serves the most delicious dishes of traditional Bhutanese, local specialties and a fusion of Indian, Chinese and Continental. From the Lodge one can enjoy the picturesque valley, traditional farmhouses with colorful farmlands and the meandering river.
