Mongar Dzong is one of the newly constructed Dzongs built in 1930, however the construction still followed the traditional pattern, style and architecture without using any nails or following a blue print. Monggar Dzong is a fine example of how traditional Bhutanese architectural designs were preserved and thrived over the centuries.
Also, unlike other Dzongs built on strategic locations, Monggar Dzong is located on a gentle slope and like any other Dzongs, the Monggar Dzong houses the district administrative offices and monastic body.
Mongar Dzong has four temples inside and the utse (central tower) has 2 entrances making it unique from other Dzongs in Bhutan. The temples include a goenkhang (chapel dedicated to local protective deities) and has paintings of Buddha’s doctrines on the walls and ceilings of the Dzong.
