Nobgang literally translates to ‘gem hill’ and is also the ancestral home of our four Queen Mothers. It takes about half an hour drive from the main town ascending up to 1,800 meters where Nobgang village is located on a hilltop. It is a quaint village with houses scattered around and with many different types of tropical fruit trees spread across the village. The people are actively dependent on agriculture and farming. An experience not to be missed is to visit one of the farmhouses to learn more about the village from a hostess and her family and to experience the village life first hand. You can also participate in the making of Bhutanese dish such ema datsi (chili cheese), suja (buttered tea) and partake in the daily farming activities. From the village, you can see the flat land of Punakha and Wangdue panning across the valley. You can walk around the village and interact with the locals. If you are up for it, you have the option of hiking downhill towards Punakha Dzong taking the ancient horse trail.
It takes approximately 2 and half hours to reach the Dzong.
